Kurz Kinegram Banknotes

Within the KURZ Group its daughter company  KINEGRAM® is the world’s leading foil-based optical security device for the protection of government documents and banknotes.

Over 100 countries trust the KINEGRAM® and its sophisticated security features to protect their valuable documents and banknotes. Highly qualified engineers, physicists, designers and project managers guarantee an exceptionally durable, robust and secure product.

Since the introduction of desktop printers and scanners in the 80s, optically variable security elements on banknotes have become an undisputed security standard. They were pioneered by OVD Kinegram with the development of the KINEGRAM®, which was first used for securing banknotes by the Austrian State Printing Works (Oesterreichische Banknoten- und Sicherheitsdruck GmbH) in 1988 to secure the Austrian currency – the Schilling.

Following this pioneering application many state printers and state or commercial banknote printers place their trust in the KINEGRAM® technology.

Today KURZ offers the KINEGRAM® security element in three variants for banknote applications:

  • KINEGRAM® STRIPE
  • KINEGRAM® STRIPE registered
  • KINEGRAM® PATCH

KINEGRAM® STRIPE

The classic application of the KINEGRAM® security stripe is the standard process at KURZ. A continuous stripe in web direction is seen today as a cost effective and easily applied solution, which is at the same time guarantees utmost security. If special complex KINEGRAM® technologies such as KINEGRAM ZERO.ZERO® are added, then the ease of application and highest possible security can be combined.

KINEGRAM® STRIPE registered

Thanks to highly innovative application equipment, it is today possible to place KINEGRAM® design elements in register on the banknote. This increases the freedom of the banknote designer, who is now able to combine the printed banknote design with the KINEGRAM® into a visual entity. The optimal design of a banknote, where several technologies are combined and complement each other, increases the hurdles that counterfeiters have to overcome and significantly increased the security of the banknotes.

KINEGRAM® PATCH

Following its introduction on the Austrian Schilling note in 1988, the patch application has seen significant developments. Durability and security have been greatly increased due to innovations in basic foil technology. Today partial metallizing and transparency as well as  reduced application tolerances have advanced so far that patches can be completely and seamlessly integrated into the banknote design.
